Individual Therapy

I offer weekly trauma-informed therapy and consultation via telehealth or in-person in North Bethesda, Maryland for adolescents (13+) and adults.

My approach can be described as down to earth, direct and surprisingly filled with laughter and moments of connection. I center the connection between mind and body, utilizing creative techniques (art, sand tray and writing), parts work, and EMDR to craft sessions that are nuanced and tailored to your individual needs and experiences.

Many of my clients are looking to work through:

  • Trauma or pain from childhood

  • Big life changes (moving, job or school changes, break-ups, etc.)

  • Navigating relationships (feeling stuck in patterns, people pleasing or unsure  in friendships and/or romantic partners)

  • Memories, sensations or flashbacks that feel disruptive

  • Managing panic attacks or overwhelming feelings of anxiety

  • Identity exploration

  • Self esteem, confidence and self identity exploration

Therapeutic modalities I often use include:

  • Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an innovative and empowering therapeutic approach that helps individuals connect with their internal world to better understand and heal their emotions, beliefs, and behaviors. IFS can help you build a healthier relationship with yourself by identifying and understanding the roles of each part within you. By acknowledging and caring for the various parts of your inner system, you can address sources of emotional pain, resolve inner conflicts, and promote personal growth. IFS provides tools for navigating trauma, managing anxiety, and creating positive changes in self-esteem, relationships and overall well-being.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based intervention that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. I offer EMDR interwoven into your regular counseling sessions or EMDR intensives for a more concentrated short term trauma treatment. EMDR Therapy can help shift negative thoughts, emotional states, and somatic cues in a positive direction, allowing you to look ahead at a brighter future.

  • Polyvagal Theory

Polyvagal Theory is a groundbreaking framework that explains how our nervous system responds to stress, safety and social connection. Our nervous system is built to shift between states of safety/connection, fight/flight and freeze. By learning about the different states and traits of your nervous system and how to activate the “safe state”, people can better manage overwhelming emotions and foster resilience. Techniques rooted in Polyvagal theory can help individuals regulate their nervous system, reduce reactivity and build a greater sense of safety and connection. Understanding and accessing the tools of polyvagal theory can be transformative for individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression and other stress related issues.
